Pedro Pedro regards his paintings as parodies of the still-life genre. His works feature fruit bowls, elaborate displays of food, or clothing scattered in disarray. He transforms everyday items, like a sock or a partially eaten sandwich, into lively figures on his dynamic canvases. The vibrant scenes by this Los Angeles-based artist recall the colorful, grotesque forms of Peter Saul as well as the compositional approaches of Old Master painters. Pedro's relaxed and witty style maintains a classical essence, with everything rendered in vivid colors, yet the imagery stays soft in texture through the use of textile paint on unprimed linen. His arrangements of messy objects hint at the rushed modern lifestyles unfolding just outside their frames.
